Conference discusses eating disorders

A conference on “Women’s Health and Nutrition” was organised by the Department of Dietetics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Government Medical College and Hospital, at the PGI, here today. It was inaugurated by Mr R.S. Gujral, Secretary, Medical Education and Research, UT.

Dr. Nirja Chawla, senior consultant with Gyne Endoscope Centre, Sector 44 D,Chandigarh and Fortis Multi-speciality Hospital, Mohali, gave an insight into ‘what’,’how’ and ‘why’ of the adult body and the issues pertaining to sex, reproduction and the diseases and misconceptions that come along. With handpicked topics especially for the youngsters, she laid stress on all that the youngsters need to know about growing up and behaving responsibly.

Health check-up camp for school kids held

A free health check-up camp for schoolchildren and employees of Lawrence School, Sanawar, was conducted by Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Over 400 children and 100 employees participated in the two-day camp. Doctors from various specialities such as internal medicine, dermatology, gynaecology, ophthalmology and ENT gave free consultations.

Eat right and exercise to fight menopause blues

Chandigarh, January 25: A healthy dose of calcium and exercise before you touch 25 can go a long way in combating menopause. Bone mass loss is one of the major manifestations of menopause. Postmenopausal women comprise about 80 per cent of the population suffering from osteoporosis. Such persons are vulnerable to fracturing their bones, especially the hip bone, the vertebral column and the wrist.
